Breath in the Rain

I won't take up much of your Christmas time
The magical moments that should be spent with family, friends

But today I want to tell you a little story that might help you through this time. Retreat to a quiet spot, make a hot drink, make yourself comfortable & cozy. This should only take a few minutes... <3

i stared:

 the counters were filled

the stove sizzled and popped

and it seemed as if the very kitchen so quiet and peaceful had turned

into a veritable overflow

for deep fried pirogis & buttercream muffins

 & steaming soup

& pomegranate kernels that littered the kitchen

While smoke wafted up to the lights twinkling overhead

My grandma, beads of sweat forming on her forehead

My sister propped on a stool squeezing ribbons of white onto more muffins.

sigh. The children have just come in, and I can barely hold myself on my own feet.

two hours later: I walked outside to front porch where the rain was falling softly.

shoulders slumped.

"Daddy, Mom, Grandpa! Come home!"

Where is Christmas today?

Hurried breaths, pauses between eating.

"Are you alright?"
"yeah..." heavy breath "yeah, i'm fine."

pause.

"You sure you alright?"
deep breath out. "I'll be fine."

"Come with me..." Daddy holds out his hand.

slow nod.

"You see the rain?"

whisper "Yeah..."

"It'll be fine."

Where is Christmas today?

Takes my hand in his. "Just breath in the rain."

slow nod.

 he leaves.

I breathe the rain

I listen to it

reveling in its sweet softness

then i turn around, and look into the open window:

Grandpa is arm wrestling with Andy, Danny & Marie

Grandma and Mom are dying with laughter

Gabriella and Daddy are smiling

And Isaiah is running a commentary in the background.

i'm so lucky.

You are here today Christmas, you are here each day

for the love that brought you here

the love of a father for His children

you, me, us

the One that takes our hand and says, despite His sacrifice

Breath in the rain

of my endless love

Forever

For God so loved the world
that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
(John 3:16)

  8. I like how your pieces are so visual, and I really like the concept of breathing in God's love. It's that close and accessible to us. Rain is a beautiful symbol. Thanks for this, Anna. Blessings & all the best for the new year! xx

    1. This is so close to me because when I am caught in the trap of anxiety/depression that is the only thing that restores me. Finding His infinite love. In that moment of despair that's all that matters and I forget only too often. Thank you so much for sharing this Jessica, Blessings to you too this New Year...you have been an infinite encouragement to me all year. God has so much in store for 2018! <3 <3 <3

  9. This was powerful. It's so easy to forget that God is always with us but by taking a moment to stop and take in the rain we can realize how amazing what we have is. That is what I take from your words. <3
