Slowly Melting
July 21, 2017
I am so sorry! It's been way too long since my last post! But the hiatus sure has been nice :) I am easing back in with a poem that kind of reflects this season of my life. It's about letting God melt your shallow wants and desires to conform so that you can be shaped into something more beautiful. Think of a blacksmith, melting impurities and hammering the metal out to form a beautiful piece that is a useful instrument, I had a heart touching experience with this live example at VBS.
In this process...realizing that I am not (and should not want to be) a clone but a very special, unique piece created by God's own hands. It's not an easy process, it's one of tugging and pushing and pulling and pain: but in the end what emerges is worth so much more than that pain. It's the bittersweet season of growing up, the balance between childhood and adulthood. It's growth...it's life and above all it's God's love.

There's a warmth creeping up my bones
Golden sunlight draws its brush over a cool restful heart
Put together, breaking it apart
Finding myself scared
I'm getting soft, slowly melting
There's a shimmering beauty mirrored in the waters
Flashing rays reflected in my eyes
Sinking them low I cannot rise
I'm wishing for something I shouldn't wish for, slowly melting
There's a soft glowing light and laughter in the air
And if only I could laugh along but I can't
Yet I know it's not wrong
It's that I'm getting stronger, slowly melting
And as the sunlight grows and the sounds of people swirl around me
Staring at that point above the water, where the sunlight hits the ripple
And it goes on, goes on and on...
into something new, Slowly melting
And as the sunlight grows and the sounds of people swirl around me
Staring at that point above the water, where the sunlight hits the ripple
And it goes on, goes on and on...
into something new, Slowly melting

Talk to me <3 What has God been doing in your life? What have you learned this summer? Did you go to or help out with VBS? Let's all chat below! :)
I have chosen the way of faithfulness;
I have set my heart on your laws.

That was beautiful, Anna! I usually don't like poetry, but this was beautiful. Great job! You could feel the heart behind it. :D

ReplyDeleteI've helped out with VBS, actually three different ones.. One at my church, one at my friend's, and one at my other friend's church! I really love volunteering at things like that!!!
Thank you Gray! <3
DeleteWow! that sure is a lot of VBS! I volunteered to help teach at a friend's church since our church doesn't have any VBS, it sure was fun and crazy :P (those 1st and 2nd graders have ENDLESS energy) XD
Beautiful!!!!!! Anna, you are an excellent poet!
ReplyDeleteThere was no VBS for me this year. I went to it and helped for 8 years, but last year they stopped doing it in my town! :( But, this year and last I have gone to an amazing Catholic camp! :) Definitely a life changer!
Thank you Clare! :) <3
DeleteI am really glad you were able to find an alternative! Good camps are the best! <3

DeleteI am sure He has many things in store for me as has been the case this month! I will definitely be sharing more :) Thank you for your lovely comment...
This is so beautiful and touching, Anna! It reminds me of how much time I've been pouring over Isaiah 43:18-19 -- Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert." I sort of feel that this is the verse of my life right now. Everything feels strangely similar to last year, but I have to trust that God is doing a new thing this time.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your lovely poem <3

It's not always easy is it? But God always seems to guide us around those bends in a way that the hardships shape us and strengthen us. Currently in my life I feel the same way, and all of a sudden when I give God the reigns of my life, miracles happen. <3
Thank you for commenting and sharing your thoughts Audrey, those little thoughts are like cool cups of water <3
I love how you kept reiterating the point "slowly melting"-- it didn't feel like repetition, because it felt more like you were like making an object, and you're hammering it out. Like, as the poem goes further, the meaning of the phrase is the same but redefined all at the same time. I wish I went to VBS this year to help out, but I couldn't. :'(

Thanks Abby! When I wrote the poem I was really supercharged with feelings so I think it just came out naturally.
DeleteAww,I'm sorry you couldn't. But then, there's always a next summer and we can't do anything, can we? :) I didn't make it to every single day of VBS because my family and I were so busy...
Thank you for commenting Abby, I love seeing your thoughts <3 xox
