The Voices of YA Tag

August 15, 2017

Thank you to Catherine for tagging me :) And sorry for the veeerryyy late release

ABOUT THE WRITERS:

1.       What draws you to YA?

Let’s be honest, I’m not big on exclusive YA. However from a person who reads the classics, YA is refreshing. YA is different and it’s encouraging to read stories whose characters are relatable to your situation, however that narrows the span of YA because much of it is targeted to youth that like… *clears throat* I think you get the idea, and that is most definitely not refreshing or encouraging, but a well written YA is pleasing. (And this is why I am I’m with Rebellious Writing)

2.      Describe your writing process. Do you like outlines and structure, or seeing where the story takes you?

I have started using bullet listed outlines with more specifications. (otherwise the implications of my naturally panster writing would be horrific) Honestly my writing style and process is in development so I go with what is best and most effective, often that means learning through trial and error. I'm still very much a learner!

3.      How long have you been writing? Where are you in your journey?

I have been writing since I was eleven, however I only really started getting serious at around thirteen. The problem is...I did not have the tools and I was very much in the dark, so being a perfectionist I knew something was wrong but I didn't know exactly what. And that was very frustrating...so naturally I never finished any first drafts. I only have half completed works from that stage. In fact I am still learning, and in no way am I stellar writer, I still haven't written a complete first draft. But I am a lot more equipped and ready to conquer my WIP.

4.  What do you need to write? Coffee? Music?

  * My laptop. (I tried so hard working in notebooks but I pitifully fail each time *eternal sorrow* But honestly it's so aesthetic, pen to paper. So I do a lot of notetaking and journaling for my WIP in notebooks.)
   * Peace and quiet

And that’s it. As long as I feel at peace inside, things are not too loud and I have my laptop…I am good to go!

5.     If you could offer one piece of advice to another writer (OTHER THAN “don’t give up”), what would it be?

Do not, not, not…get caught up in the comparison trap. It is the most damaging thing you can do to yourself, your dreams, and your life in general.
I have imperfections, you have imperfections…EVERYONE is imperfect. No matter how jaw dropping that snippet is, or how incredible that accomplishment is…you aren’t going to do any good for yourself by standing there and feeling envious or (the “humble and good” version *notice those savage quotes*) inadequate. Yes, be happy for others…share their joy. But don’t sit there and inwardly sob over your shortcomings…get down on your knees and pray, ask God to fill in your gaps, thank Him for what He has done for you…given you hands to write, a mind to think, eyes to see beauty, ears to hear song…then stand up and keep going. Dreams don’t happen by wishing, no matter how much of a dedicated wisher and believer you are, nothing’s gonna happen unless you sit down and DO IT. And you absolutely can!

ABOUT THE BOOKS:

1.       What book still has you reeling from its plot twist? (*no spoilers please*)

Hmm…LOTR. I was so devastated when so and so happened, but WHAT, the plot twist had me more than reeling. I was wildly applauding J.R.R. Tolkien for his genius.

2.      What books are you most anticipating for this year?

I must say I was most anticipating “The Blood Race” by K.A. Emmons but that is out, so definitely check that out!

3.      In your opinion, which YA book/series has the most unique premise?

That's a very tough question and unfortunately at the moment I have no answer.

4.      What is your all-time favorite quote from YA lit (I know, I’m cruel)?

Oh boy, that's practically impossible! I'm going to break the rules and list a few favorites. (Sorry, not sorry!)
"Becoming fearless isn't the point, that's impossible. It's learning how to control your fear and how to be free from it" - Divergent, Veronica Roth
"I want to be a healer, and love all things that grow and are not barren." - LOTR, J.R.R Tolkien
“He was fond of books, for they are cool and sure friends” - Les Miserable, Victor Hugo
“What Is Love? I have met in the streets a very poor young man who was in love. His hat was old, his coat worn, the water passed through his shoes and the stars through his soul” - Les Miserables, Victor Hugp

5.      What book do you most hope will have a movie adaption?

I would love all of the indie books that my blogger friends have published to become spotlessly rendered movie adaptations.. examples include
- Martin Hospitality
- Andora's Folly
- The Blood Race
- (I know I am forgetting many others here)

So get back to writing so I can add your book to this list! (Psst, one of my far fetched dreams has included making indie movies, so ahem...)

    1. I would love to! The thing is I need to get a camera and get comfortable with it...otherwise everything else is not too hard for me. Also I'd need some equipment for sound/effects...so when I can afford all then yes! :)
