Even Roses Have Thorns

May 29, 2017

This Saturday I was thinking about something, as I was weeding the garden beds and marveling over how beautiful a rose is. And as I worked with these beautiful...yet thorny roses, it became this poem.

When I run on the paths
The paths of my home
Pushing aside trees
Kneeling upon the loam

Where from the earth
Comes a beautiful rose
To my cheek I bring the silky petals
Before I know, it’s pricked my nose

Even Roses have thorns
Even Roses have thorns
Even Beautiful things
Wrought by God’s hand
Even Roses have thorns

John tells to love, to love with no fear
To love and to trust and to bring about cheer
If love is a rose,
Than Loving brings pain
Yes sometimes, it does
Do we sacrifice for nothing?
No but for a heavenly gain.

As I run on the path
The paths of my home
And I kneel upon the soft loam
Even though I’ve been pricked
How can I not love the rose?
For though you be pricked
And though you be hurt
And though you be trodden
Into the dirt
Love, love with the fervor of God
Just remember that roses have thorns

As I run on the paths
The paths of my home
And again do I kneel upon the loam
The prick is forgotten and all I can see
Is a rose in its splendor, created divine,
And I think to myself, How wonderful is He.

For if I love a rose and forget its sharp pricks
If again I return, and again and again
Than the fellow companions of life, God Sent
Love I can…I Surely can.

Drop me a comment about what you think, what has your experience been in loving unconditionally?

Just keep it clean and remember to check back because I answer all my comments. :)

Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
 It does not dishonor others,
it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
 Love never fails.
